The aggressive remoulds tend to come up slightly bigger than spec. The Special Track the worst, but I'd think the Sahara too, although I've not owned this size in them. the 235/85 and 7.50 sizes where always a bit bigger. However, I think you'd be fine on stock suspension, maybe just a little rub on the plastic at worst, but likely nothing.
Interesting about the Special Track pattern requiring more clearance. Do you know if the Sahara pattern also needs a lift and will it make any difference if it is on a Gen 4?215 75 15' new tyre [non retread] will fit standard height Jimny with no wheel spacers fitted
195 80 15 retreads same has above
But not [special track pattern]
These will need a 2" lift
With the 2" lift 215 and the 195 will work with 30mm wheel spacers or offset rims
Special tracks may rub a little with spacers or offset rims

I did lower my last jimny and went circuit driving with it, it rocked. In a good way. Though it would have benefited from more brakes than it had if I were to do it again. But the suspension I used really did measurably improve handling as it reduced my lap times by seconds because I could carry speed through corners. Nowadays I don't want to go there so I have a set up for maximum softness courtesy of the longest free length thinnest wire aftermarket standard springs I could find and koni dampers set as soft as possible. My ride height is bod on with my every day carry in the back and I have the nicest almost French ride quality of any jimny I have ever been in. But and this is the rub, I have put both time and money in to my suspension and as ride quality is subjective I am mindful or my expenditure and it will colour my opinion. This effect is only going to get worse if you have spent a better part of a grand on a suspension kit but if it's an off the shelf kit instead of a selection of self assessed parts you have bought into compromise that the seller of the kit has had to impose to make their kit work in as many different scenarios as possible. Off the shelf kinda works for most people to some degree but my custom system works better for me.

It's actually a bit of a catch 22, if you want to improve it on road start with better shocks, stiffer sway bars and better tires, if you really want better on road handling then your better off lowering it. But that's not what the jimny is about, it's about being a fun all round vehicle, and that will hurt its off riad capabilities. If you want better off road performance and that's what you want it for then yes a lift is a must, put on 235 mud terrain tires winches and all the rest.
I'm a little different these days, I used to do 4x4 competitions but now with many a permanent injury I just want to get to my fishing and hunting spots easily and in comfort, and when I'm on the road I love the out of the box feel of the jimny, they aren't fast but that bit of lean, bounce and instability means at normal road speeds when giving it a bit it feels like your going fast, and that to me is what gives it that happy excited puppy dog feel.

I have 4x alloy wheels which I was going to fit Saharas and try those out at the local trials on stock suspension.
The worm drives I have on at the moment don’t rub, I could try measuring free space on full lock, but I think there is a fair bit of clearance and the Saharas will be the same nominal size.

Thanks. I have had to put a lift on hold, my current insurance company won’t insure a vehicle with non-standard suspension, so I will have to wait until back end of the summer to change. The aggressive remoulds tend to come up slightly bigger than spec. 215 75 15 Sahara would possibly fit the gen4
But I have never proved it
Only have tried and tested tyres for the gen3

We had a bit of snow here today, but I am going to try full lock on my worm drives 215/75r15 tomorrow and measure the clearance before hitting the button on the Saharas.
Thanks for all of the advice, most appreciated and I realise that no one might have tried my exact setup. I did have the same worm drives on my Gen 3 and the Gen 4 does look to have more space.
I do intend to go for a lift, I would prefer that I now wait until nearer the insurance is due for renewal, but the best laid plans and all that.

That's the best bit about a jimny, you can mod it, test and adjust and set it up exactly right for your needs.
Their a versatile thing that can be just about anything you need, and its always fun seeing another on the road, give a wave and try and figure what they did to theirs.
