Buying a gen3 for green laning

Hi all I want to buy a cheap gen 3 under 3k I don't know what to get either something already modded for or a standard example that hasn't been off road and modify it? 

I won't be doing super serious off roading just some green laning I live in west wales so plenty near me. 
What will I need to throw at a jimny for green laning tyres lift kit snorkle ?

3k is not the budget it was pre covid, it will really only get you what was previously a thousand pound shed.. You'll be lucky to find something in that range that isn't going to be in desperate need of significant welding or has had mot level repair already. If you go modified expect it to be tired on the verge of being rough as people don't put in the expense of the mods without wanting the return of using it in severe conditions off road.

lambert is right. 3k doesn't buy you much Jimny anymore without it being either a modified wreck or a standard rusted out car that will need repairs/welding so in that price bracket you will be putting money into repairing it to get it roadworthy rather than mods. Back to the question in hand though I would rather buy a stock example and then modify it as you will then know what's been done and the quality of work that's been done. Also the cars are very capable from stock and to keep it roadworthy I would suggest doing the absolute minimum otherwise you fall down a slippery slope in modifications and the car will perform worse on the road. To make a stock Jimny very capable off-road I would look at doing tires first either in all terrain or mud terrain form depending on the off-roading/ road miles your doing. Perhaps then a 2inch lift if you want to fit bigger wheels or perk up the car a little. Really that's about as far as you want to go before it gets expensive.

With the wheels and tyres what am i looking at paying for a set second hand if I can find some. 
and the 2 inch lift kit again what sort of money ? Im pretty handy with a spanner so can do work myself

For laning I would forget the lift, you won’t need it, a stock Jimny is high enough. Plus a lift will add around 30% to your insurance.

Second hand wheels and tyres do come up from time to time, expect to pay around £100 - £125 a corner may be a bit more depending on the state of the wheels and how good the tyres are.

New steel wheels can be bought for about £55 each and you can get reasonable 4x4 AT tyres for about £100 each which will be great for lanes. You don’t need mud tyres r anything extreme for most lanes.

If however, you are thinking about lanes which are a bit more extreme, then go with a mate so you can pull each other out.

I survived years on road tyres without a lift going farming every day. That said I do now run renegade at5 mid range Chinese tyres and they have definitely improved the available traction. They also have increased my confidence of sidewall durability being more heavily treaded and also a stronger load index implying more sidewall structure.
