The garage that fitted the Maxxis on my Gen 3 (and used them before) says they can balance Jimny wheels, they apparently have a load of adaptors for their machine and my guess would be that the bloke who did the spare a couple of weeks ago didn't know. Cost is £20/corner to swap the tyres and balance.

I suspect they are going to balance them on the hubs, but it was fine last time, if it isn't this time, I will probably go the balance bead method.

Unfortunately the only garage I can find in my area that has a stud balancer looks dodgy, even by small tyre fitting outfits, so I am giving that a miss.

Beads from dyna beads yes 
I went for the larger 4x4 beads 
[inserted in the tyres] 
Had the smaller type before from Devon 4x4 but had one get sucked into the valve stem. When airing down for off roading

Its just a question of whether or not the stock Jimny rims are in fact hub centric. Would be very strange if they're not.


Stock Jimny rims, and I believe most Suzuki rims are "lug centric" and not "hub centric" - to determine this all you need to do is look at the "lug seats", the area on the wheel where the lug nuts "sit" - is it flat or is it tapered so that a tapered lug nut will center on the seat.

This does not mean that the center bore is not concentric, it simply means that the rim is designed to be centered by the lugs and there is no need for hub centering rings.

Tapered (or spherical) seats are  actually there to prevent the nuts loosening through mechanical precession.  Previously, cars had to have left-hand threads for the studs on one side. You get precession any time there is rotation with a fluctuating load, and slight clearance between parts, as with a thread.

Many aftermarket Jimny wheels are lug cemtric because the centrebore is far bigger than stock - the rear centre caps just fall through.

The tyre fitting place balanced the wheels using the hub and after 600 miles (combination of short and longer high speed journies) I can't feel any wheel imbalance.

TBH when the Maxxis were fitted to my Gen 3 wheels (same garage) there wasn't an issue.
