That is, of course, because the wheels and tyres on the gen4 Jimny in question are all but standard size.

On my off road Jimny the vented disks significantly improved the performance on the MOT rolling road tests.

The braided brake lines improved the firmness of the brake pedal, removing any spongy feel

Whereas I have had rubber hoses breakdown & can be seen physically changing shape when pressure is put through them, but I would say that the only time I would normally use SS hoses is when I need a custom length usually on the kit cars. Although I always found that they were better on bikes, they do look nicer as well which I suspect is the main reason most people use them

I didn't voice my opinion to start an argument, I just went on the web and asked the question and the answers just confirmed my suspicions. If you get a rid of a spongy feel, maybe you had air in the system. That comment came up quite a lot. Martin has pointed out that the Dyno test proved the system was better. Well it should be, the piston was bigger and so were the pads and probably the pad material. If you are going to do a test it should be done on a level playing field.

Sorry Roger if you though I was being argumentative it wasn't my intention, I was just voicing my opinion, that over the years that I have been riding & driving I have had issues with rubber hoses & I have had my hand & felt the rubber flex when the pedal/lever is pressed/pushed, something I have never experienced with SS. But I will also say that of my 4 road going vehicles only 1 of them has SS hoses, as it's open wheeled kit car I built & they can be seen & of custom length.

All my jimny have to work for a living except spare jimny who has an easy life. Consequently the upgraded components I fit whilst being potentially performance based, when I fit them are more of a safety matter than a go faster one. Being able to predictably and repeatedly stop when towing at full capacity because of having decent brakes or indeed not be bounced off the road by a trailer because of having decent suspension is of the highest concern for me, not just for myself but those around me. Yes a standard jimny in as new condition is capable of doing everything in its specification and I am not asking it to exceed that specification but with the use of more "focused" parts I am giving it some headroom and to some extent moderating the effects of age. After all I can't justify having a new jimny once a year just to keep it fresh but I can justify a few extra pounds on decent things as factory ones get old.

- At work we design also hydraulic systems for our equipment and very often we have instructions for our customers to install hoses to dampen pulses in the system.
- When you get someone to push the pedal you can see the brake hose twitch and curl.
- Some of us with 2" lifts has longer hoses, approx 50% longer from memory, increasing the dampening effect hoses have.

All in all this makes the theory/opinion of the effect of the braided lines very plausible for me, so i would like to try braided hoses.
