I recently bought a 2013 Jimny which had no tri-lock key to remove the spare wheel cover. The usual alternatives seem to be either brazing a rod onto the nut or hammering a smaller socket onto it to get some purchase.
In about 2013 someone posted on the Forum about making their own key and it does work. I took three 4" nails and cut the heads off, I held them at the pointed ends and pushed the blunt ends into the three holes, a blob of Blu-tack kept them together whilst I put enough Isopon P38 round them to hold them firmly. When this had set I took the whole thing and fitted it inside an old box spanner making sure that the three nail ends protruded enough, then I pushed more Isopon in at each end and allowed it to set for a few hours. I had given the wheel nut a squirt of WD40 beforehand and it came off easily when I put a wrench onto the other end of the box spanner.
