Hello. This is my first post and I am afraid it is not a good one.
My wife recently bought a near new (4000klm on odo) 2020 Jimny.
There is a major issue with the ESP function of this vehicle which happens every time the vehicle is driven away and coming home to our place of residence. It is on a rather bumpy, sealed road and when it happens it is very alarming and downright dangerous. What happens is the brakes start working by themselves to a symphony of grinding mechanical noises.
So far when it has happened the vehicle has been doing about 60klmph, going round bumpy corners.
When winter hits we get lots of ice here in Southern Tasmania and I can see this problem could end up being fatal.
A google search indicates this problem has been encountered by others and that Suzuki is aware of it but has no recall notices or fixes.
See article here www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/suzu...id-problem-uncovered
Surely others on this forum who have bought the latest model Jimnys have experienced this.
We are not even sure if it is worth taking it back to the dealer we bought the vehicle off to get them to look at the problem if there is no fix.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I'm aware of the Autocar article, although iirc it mentions driving aggressively or similar to result in the behaviour.
I've done 8000 miles in my Jimny. And I often drive hard on the road. I can't say I have come across this issue in mine.
Are you able to maybe film the behaviour (maybe internal and external shots)? And does it occur at multiple speeds or only at higher speeds?
If the ESP is kicking in, I can only assume that the road surface is causing wheels to lift off the ground, so that there is a wheel speed difference across the axle. Which if this happening, then the ESP is probably doing the right thing.
Aftermarket suspension may help in controlling the wheels and keeping them on the ground better. But you'd want to identify the cause before trying to address.

We plan to take a video of the problem. It is alarming.
The dealer we bought the vehicle from has never heard of the issue, so I doubt they would even know how to fix it.
Obviously this problem happens on a certain type of road and just our luck we have a few of those roads around here.
Thinking it will be best to take this up with Suzuki Australia.

On the UK version you can turn the ESP off. Does your version have the same facility and if so, have you tried it?

Thanks Roger.
I don't think we can turn it off.
There is a button to do that but as soon as the vehicle goes over 30klmph the system turns on again.

Hi Parsnip Pete,
I haven't had any similar issues during my 28000kms in my 2019, but this doesn't mean it couldn't be a problem. Is yours an auto or a manual? Do you have standard tyres?
Cheers, Mike
