Perhaps an easier solution would be to paint a new scale on the rev counter so it looks like it only revs to 3k, and then run a car noise emulator app through the stereo that makes it sounds like a Scania.

Point taken re rpms, however, the 1.4HDi (yes the PSA engine shared between early fiestas and 206s) also have a very close ratio gearing, and the rev range seems comparable to the Jimnys.

It seems, from reviews of the K9K, that the PSA is mechanically favourable, and having been placed in the liana as standard.

To show my logic, ive attached images of:
1) PSA DV4 1.4HDi block
2) Jimny M13A gearbox
3) Jimny M13A block

Yes its a case of money, time, fabrication etc, but it fascinates me that these two were seemingly made side by side, but the K9K was used(?)

And as for the Scania comment... Tried, speaker blown...

Worst case scenario, couple hundred quick and the knowledge that it doesn't work. Best case, a new option for those of us who like diesel purely to say we've done it.

If you're determined to have a diesel might it be worth looking for a complete one in the EU area that has failed inspection on rust and import it whole and use it as a donor for a good rust free UK shell? That way the engineering is to a road worthy standard and other than the left to right conversion everything essentially fits nicely with everything else.
