The issue of engine identification often comes up on the forum and a common solution is for a picture to be taken and uploaded for someone with the reqiored knowledge to identify it.

May I suggest a simpler approach- The M series engines all have DOHC written on the top of the engine whilst the G series engines all have 16 valve written on top of theirs. Everyone will be able to find this and should therefore be able to identify their engine easily.

If you can see the plug leads and coil packs it's the earlier G13b with a cam belt. If you can't see them, they're under the plastic cover it's the later M13a with a timing chain.

On the 8th Day God made the LandRover -
On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.

hi guys my jimny has the black cover over the plugs which has DHOC 16valve underneath , i’m wondering will this be
the G series engine or the M series cheers
