I'd be inclined to drum up a complaint to VOSA as they can see the failure and quick pass straight after on the system to evidence what you are saying. How many others has he done things like that to and not been challenged and allowed to change components at someone's expense with no good reason?

My regular MoT chap made this very point one day as there is a KwiFit doing half price MoTs a few hundred yards away. He said it is cheaper but they find things etc. etc. ;)

Years ago a garage replaced my rusty front brake pipes as part of a service/MOT.
Asked them how that had happened on copper brake lines, they went all sheepish and waived the bill, needless to say I never went back.

Hi everybody, thanks for the replies. You are right as to how many times this could have been used to get business. Kirkynut, I did think of reporting to VOSA, but I think the tester seemed sheepish at not knowing this. In future it pays to question mechanics. The main thing is , I got a pass. Ok for another year!
