I once had a similar situation back in the very late 90s, my mot had lapsed and I was panicking so I went to one of the big chain places with my audi got the mot all ok and a bill for 450 quid. So I questioned them on it and they said I had needed 2 new rear wheel bearings so I asked for the old ones back and they were tapered not sealed so that was one thing and they were most upset then the next item was new rear brake lines as apparently they were corroded and they had had to remove the fuel tank to fit them. When I pointed out that the fuel tank was inside the boot against the back seat and that I thought it odd that the brake lines would go over it, they waived the bill in its entirety. You would have thought that these places that try such sharp practice would have worked out their key target audience for such behaviour so as not to be caught out?
Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
ADOS Attention Deficit Ooooh Shiny!
Remember that big expose that finished Apples Autocentre?
Was it Rodger Cook?
He was always filming "stings" where he blatantly spoke directly to his bag, or toolbox in this episode, enunciating clearly, and getting his new mates (as he had always met them that morning in his undercover role) to repeat/confirm what they said.
And he'd tweak the position of the bag/toolbox so the camera got the best view - and no-one noticed
e.g. "So - you - fleece - customers - by - charging - for - brake - fluid - changes - that - you - don't - do?
"duh, yeah that's right, customers are really stupid, hur, hur hur"
How anyone ever fell for his stings is beyond me, but it finished Apples, they went bust.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Asked them how that had happened on copper brake lines, they went all sheepish and waived the bill, needless to say I never went back.
Was a time if you had a fail cert. you could trot to another MoT station and get a pass from them.
