possibly fail on say emission badly and if a cheep car mite as well buy a new one so no point forking out for ballpoints etc and spending time to fine out it needs a new cat and a load of other hidden stuff that you missed

Exactly. They aren't all my cars, I don't want to put a day aside for fixing them before the MOT and then find they fail on something I missed. I do a quick check for anything obvious then let the MOT man tell me the rest! On modern discoveries and range rovers, the suspension is so cumbersome and complicated that poking around with a bar trying to find worn bushes is pretty hopeless. Luckily the wobble plates makes that bit easier for us all!

Just remember that the mot only applies to the things tested at the time of the test and whilst it remains current for a year it does not mean that the car tested is necessarily roadworthy, legal or indeed safe on any other day of the year. It is up to us as responsible vehicle users to keep the vehicle well maintained at all times, after all plod and others can request a new mot at any time.

I'd love to hear that noise as I have a clonking noise that sounds like a door hinge and it is driving me barmy.
I think most people (90%) would think that the MoT is the only time they ever check anything underneath. :whistle:
