I asked one of the advisors at work(Suzuki dealer) to print me off a service schedule for my 07 reg and that said at 64k to change timing belt but it's a timing chain on the m13 engine, if you look at the engine there's no plastic removable belt cover on the end of the engine

Yes! Basketcase,,, I will check all this, I'm fairly sure its a chain and not a belt, just my hand book says belt,,,, strange to say belt when they are chains, ,, I take it then I should change the Cam Chain at 64k on a M13A engine as a precaution, would your service guy recommend that? Maybe they stretch over time and slip. Some say the chain should last the time of an engine, if regular oil and filters are changed..

Cheers
Tony..

Hi BGBrit, the M13A is definitely a chain and no you don't need to change the chain ever.
Cheers,
John.

Thanks for that confirmation Johniehec,,, Just one job less to do, as long as regular oil changes are undertaken all should be fine.

Thanks again

On the Suzuki service schedules there's no time to change the chain of it starts to get a little noisy the. I'd probably change it but until then just keep doing oil and filter every 9000 miles and diff oil every 2 years you'll be fine

Sound advice Basketcase,,,, I intend to keep this jimny going for many years, till it drops, I doubt I'll do more 3000k per year so, the engine should/will last well given I'll do the recommended oil changes, for me the main prob is rust, its a little rusty now in places being a 2009 model with 34,000k on the clock therefore I'll be doing a lot of wire brushing sealing etc to give it longevity ... Not sure which we die first me or it, becoming 61 a week ago, although I do stay well oiled too (Woods Dark Rum) so, I'm very preserved...
