My Kangoo I bought had been sold to the garage because it needed £1500 of injection work needed at retail. 05 plate with 90k on the clock. Lovely runner when fixed and I bought it. Swoped it for my jimny

I'm not a diesel fan and never have been. Old basic ones are noisy and under powered and modern ones are too complicated and when they break they cost a fortune to fix.
Petrol cars, particularly n/a ones are much simpler and straight forward. I can understand modern n/a ones. Turbos are ok but a little beyond my full understanding.
I respect what is being achieved by modern common rail diesels but but look what is happening with petrols! 200+bhp from a 1.6. 170bhp from a 1.0l Ford Ecoboost I read the other day.

You like many others are still hanging on to old thinking. There are no indications why it shouldn't last as long as other bigger engines with same power. Of course it's more delicate than an old petrol engine. But with correct service and maintenance I don't see why it shouldn't last.
It not like Ford, VW etc.. just throw an engine out on the market without extensive tests. There's been put thousands, if not million of km's in testing these engines.
Right now the 1.0 Ecoboost is available in a 130 bhp version, runs fine and no stories of weaknesses of such.
Later this year, Volvo puts a brand new 2.0 4 cylinder engine with 304 bhp in their new 60 and 70 models. That's roughly the same power pr litre as these 1L Ecoboosts engine.... Yes yes I know roughly

Vw have the golf r400 coming out soon 2.0l 400bhp, using the same engine as the new a45 amg. I think that is about 350 bhp and on the road now. Can't see this being unreliable, high maintenance though.
