So how the factory diesel performs in comparison to the petrol Jimny?

I was also wondering why nobody seems to consider the Renault 1.5 diesel as a viable conversion , it can't all be about bhp as I would sacrifice a bit of engine power for better mpg , not to mention the torque characteristics of a diesel. I have a couple of friends who run Renault Meganes and they average over 58 mpg around town, a 50% increase over the equiv petrol unit and they are a good powerful engine.

Would a 1.5 Diesel may be an easier conversion( ?? ) than a pug lump on the grounds that it was a factory model

Anybody on here ever own or driven one?.

There is that thread there that may help.
In New Zealand we get taxed twice for Diesels, The registration (Is just our word for road tax) which is more expensive for a diesel, and Road User Charges which is essentially paying for every KM you do. So you do really have to think hard if a diesel is worth it.

The factory diesel is the 1.5 renault engine.

Probably the reason for not using the renault is the complexity of the electronics, and the difficulty in getting one that is any good for sensible money.

The 1.5td has a bit of a reputation for self destructing, and very very very expensive fuel system faults.

Admittedly, renault have made 50 million of the things, and only 50,000 have exploded, but I've seen two round here (very smart looking renault whatever-it-isis with a "spares or repair" sign in the window, and a puddle of oil underneath).

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

From a performance point of view. The 1.5 DDiS diesel is quite interesting. It has 86 bhp standard but easily 120-130 chipped. Probably even more with bigger intercooler, modded airbox and custom mapping.

I would love to try a Jimny with this configuration. But the Diesel Jimny's are just way too expensive, and not available here in Denmark.

Easy to believe that would be a big barrier with a complex modern Diesel.

Hunter, we have no such problems running diesels here in the uk (apart from the fact that diesel became inexplicably around 5% more expensive than regular petrol when diesel cars became popular)

I guess it would be easier to buy a Jimny Diesel from Europe and convert it to RHD than transplant a 1.5D into a petrol Jim
