as for the electrics they seem to cope fine have seen jimnys driving through rivers with water levels upto the windscreen with no issues.
I regularly liberally spray all the connectors etc with wd40............... builds up a dirt/wd40 barrier.

but it will speed up the connectors failing due to corrosion ive put some marine connector protector all over mine

Also, I've read somewhere that the RN or some nautical group have stopped using it 'cause it has been known to cause fatigue or something to plastics/rubbers surrounding the electrical contacts, so they use something else???
Don't know how true/factual that is but there's nothing on the telly and my medication hasn't kicked in.
Anyway.....

The trouble is that it will affect the few 100,000volts on the ignition system. This is under the plastic cover on top of the engine and it open at one end. Therefore it is good against some quite serious splashes but once water enters the end of the cover is basically game over.
