My girlfriend and I are going to Italy to tour round the Alps and drive to the highest point in Europe off road in the summer
Are you thinking of the Col do. Somellier near Bardonecchia? We drove it last September. It climbs for miles and is I think the highest point off road on a track. There was a load of snow at the top but worth driving up. It's a bit rocky in places and we needed low range for some of the way but quite driveable. I was talking to one of the petrol station people who said the local council make sure the track is useable as it attracts quite a lot of interest.
Have fun!

I got it from off road armoury it was £80 I think, I would defiantly recommend one as it stops any wobble over bumps
