I wouldn't bother with a boot on any shock as they just retain moisture.

A little hole won't achieve anything. It could allow condensation in. With no boot the seal has to deal with grit and dirt but when did you know of a seal on a shock fitted to an off roader to fail before the rest of the shock was knackered?

That and in certain land rover circles pro comps with boots have a horrible propensity to rust the piston causing serious pitting which the seals really can't cope with.

blimey - decisions decisions -

to boot or not to boot that is the question

Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles .....

what about a smothering of grease prior to fitting a boot

I feel a vote coming on ..... should some kind admin care to create one

How does it let condensation in I thought condensation would form inside ? And escape out of the whole why do trailmaster supply them with there shocks then surely they know a thing or two about shock absorbers so would they not supply them with them if they were that damaging to the shock, mines been on a year now no pitting or rust has formed on the piston and it still looks like new around the seal as the boot has protected it, I suppose it might be a different matter if I went mud plugging every weekend I could see the point of the boot filling up but I don't think Halford will be doing this and the boot will just keep a bit more road crude off of it.

How does the shocker lie? Does it angle down at all like rear shox? If so an open ended sleeve should drain should it not??
