OMG, took the drum off expecting to find 20 years of decay and was faced with this.

Brand new!! Incredible especially after I had been working on the King Pins and the front caliper showed mucho decay!

Everything was working fine. Even if I had checked the rear brakes before the MoT I would not have been able to see the real performance without a rolling road.
I bet you can guess what it might be. I can't check to see if I have actually sorted it until I can get back to the garage and re-test in the dyno.

How easy did thay come off it may just need adjusting
slacken off your hand brake inside the car then adjust the rear shoes till thay just rub on the drum then take up the slack by readjusting the hand brake

The drum didn't fall off like the other side did, I had to run M8 bolts in the drum but it was not snagging or catching the shoes. It was just a tight fit on the hub flange. I manually adjusted the ratchet so that I could just get the drum on with a whisper of catching. I did it that much as the shoes don't even look bedded in. The handbrake adjustment should be fine don't you think as the examiner said that was working well. He seemed to think it is a hydraulic issue. When I applied the brake pedal the balancer contraption where the last bleed nipple is was not moving so he suggested I bled it thinking there might be air in that quarter of the pipework (my words not his). He said he could feel sponginess too which made him convinced I should bleed it.

I have bled it; some air did come out but when doesn't it?? The pedal does feel a lot firmer and higher but it is hard to judge. I like the way examiners can tell these things and this guy tries to be helpful. Apparently I only get one re-shot at this then it means a complete re-test.

So how can I self test if that wheel is functioning as it should.

I'd love to know why that has all been replaced, and when and by whom.

If that load vavle thing with the spring to the axle dont move when the brake is applyed then its a fail see its if free if not free it off also there should be no air in the system at all

Before I bled the brakes it would not and did not move when applying the brakes. After bleeding the tip moves about ¼". How much should it move? I've never really seen the point of them let alone understand what they are for. Since bleeding there has been an improvement in the pedal's feel but I can't say I have seen any better mechanical movement in the slave cylinder. In terms of movement the slave was functioning fine before. I will admit though that air in that section might compromise the force that the slave could exert on the shoes.

It may not have been blead correctly when the wheel cylinder was fitted

If it moves its working so as long as it moves its fine
