You can all flame me if you want but do you think it a good idea that if a member buys some item for the normal retail or sale price, then surely if copies are made using said item for measurements etc, the member ought to get some token of thanks, be it a favour or monetary gift. I usually, if offered (as if) ask for a gift to charity, such as breast cancer or the like.
Am I right or way off the mark? It would seem only fair to me. There again, I'm just a grumpy old git. :D
This isn't aimed at anyone, just my thoughts whilst waiting to lock work up for the night.

I think rob would be slightly miffed if he knew you were openly copying his products ! After all it's his design = his property, his research and development,
Technically it's theft !
Just my 2p
I've had people copy my designs and it really gets my goat ! Especially when they make them in numbers to sell !

This is obviously a bit of a sore subject with some people, but if some one is willing to have a go for themselves at home then whats the problem. I could understand if REAPER asked for the design to mass produce them and sell them on then this would be a valid problem. I made some heavy duty recovery eye's and have sold quite a few to various members. I wouldn't be bothered if another member had a look and knocked a pair up for their selves, good look to them thats what I say. Thats just my 2p worth.

I'm all up for people having a go them selves but they should have a go at designing it them selves as well. And if you do want to copy somebody elses design it's polite to ask !
When you buy a part a big chunk of what you pay is cost and time it takes to design it.
Then you get people that say "I enjoy making my own parts " well that's all good but learn to enjoy designing them as well. or at least ask if it's ok to make one for personal use. I asked rob about his bead locks and he sent me the cad drawings for me to get "one" set laser cut.
I personally don't mind people copying my designs as a "one off" for personal use ! But not copying in bulk to sell and then have the cheek to charge more than I do !!!

To be honest though most transfer case damage I've seen is caused buy torque not buy impact so a chassis mounted skid won't really help unless it's used in conjunction with some kind of bracing between the 2 case mounts.

i don't intend on mass producing anything but in my defense unless a product has been patented or copyrighted then there really isn't an issue
