fuel saving /power booster was created by anth69y
hi everyone
just wondered if any of you good people have fitted a fuel /power boost chip like this

www.tuningwizard.co.uk/index.php?main_pa...119&products_id=2254

if so what do you think ,do they improve power or fuel consumption like they state or do they bugger up your jimny ?

My mate built his own, it's just a potentiometer that makes the ecu think the inlet temp is colder than it actually is and let's more fuel into the mix. 40 bhp is quite an exaggeration in my opinion. Not sure of the long term effects it could have on the engine, I always file these away in the drawer marked urban myth along with those fuel saving magnets that attach to the fuel lines.

As said above they work by tricking your engine ECU in to thinking the air going in to the engine is cooler than it is, so the ECU then up's the fuel. So all they do is make you car run rich all the time which will make you use more fuel and could poss damage the CAT as more fuel in the system means more undurnt fuel in the exhaust and higher emissions come MOT time.

I had the opposite idea on the rangerover (with flapper air meter: I forget the code number)
I put a resistor in parallel with the engine temp sensor to fool it into thinking the engine was warmer to back the choke off and save fuel, as well as stopping it hunting at idle.

A jimny has an exhaust gas sensor that will trim the fuel when running at a steady speed and negate any fiddling with air temperature sensor.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

that was more the idea not to get more power but to get better mpg ,its a great little plodder which i am happy just pottering around in but if i can improve fuel consumption that would be a bonus .
i wondered if any jimny owner had improved there mpg in any way or if it was as good as it gets from the factory

To get better mpg:

1) Fit road tyres, blow them up hard to reduce sidewall flexing.
2) Don't go above 50mph- ever :)
3) Try not to press the brake or accelerator down at all, plan the route so you can switch off* and arrive at your destination just as the wheels stop turning.

4) Get behind a large vehicle, and drive as close as possible to get a little bit of a tow from his slipstream (this can be frowned upon by people in uniforms, some nonsense about thinking distance  )

5) Use 5w30, 10w30 or straight 30 weight oil in the engine, instead of 10w40.
6) Make sure the air cleaner is clean and the plugs are in good condition.
7) Keep the windows shut.
8) Keep the battery topped up with an optimate, and don't use anything electrical (heater fan, lights, radio etc.)

* there is no point coasting in neutral with the engine on, this uses more fuel to keep it ticking over than letting it overrun when the engine will cut the fuel off

I use numbers 1,2,3,6,7 & 8 regularly and get about 33 mpg out of my twin cam.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

That reminds me: ;)

9) don't carry any surplus weight- (leave the toolbox at home) easy enough when the boot is so small, you could take the rear seats out and leave them at home as well.

However, there does come a point when the desire to save fuel interferes with the reason you have the jimny in the first place. Suzuki 4x4s are not very economical full stop. If I need to drive 100 miles I use our Corsa, I can get 45mpg on a run and drive at 70mph.

I used to get more MPG from the (diesel) SWB terrrano and about the same from the 200Tdi engined 110 Landrover. (but I do save £100 a year on road tax)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

kids would kill me if i took the back seats out . i must admit i only bought the jimny for the winter ,well if it goes the same as last year i will be laughing. we have a diesel c4 and it was doing 73.4 mpg when we went to buy the jimny . but last winter i could not pull away from my front door on a flat road and when we did get it moving it was an absolute night mare and i have driven and ridden just about everything and it was the worst
so if the jimny can drive in the snow its worth its weight in gold
