As for the grease on the ball joints do you mean the swivel joints? If not which ball joints are you talking about?
Mine has a little bit of grease on the N/S swivel joint but all the ball joints are grease free!
Hope this helps

When you engage 4wd the noise you can hear is the 2 vacuum hubs locking in. This is normal on the Jimny unless it has manual locking hubs fitted.Ryland wrote: thanks for the reply, what about the noise when I engaged the 4wd, is that normal?

its the ball shape back of the wheel, if it is the swivel ball joint, why would it be greasy?

yes thats the swivel joint.
I remember testing the 4wd on mine when i got it, having no 4x4 experience i was thinking "what the hell"
I think its when the swivel joints start leaking then they are in need of tlc.

as everyone has said, don't worry about the 4x4 noise and under, that come from driving it on the road. 4wd can only be used on slippery surfaces.
the swivel joints should be dry. Greasy ones usually indicate problem. Sometimes some owners grease them in error. If its a dealer car get them to check the swivels and offer you a guarantee that nothing is wrong. If the rest of the car is ok get them to change the kingpin bearings.
