had to renew the filter,
snapped the connector pipe when taking it out
(more on tank removal thread)
car is at 81,000 miles so needed done anyway
cleaned up the collar for painting with hammerite
put it all together for re-fitting

prepared top of the tank by thinning hammerite with wd40 and painting the top flange. very thin coat (will not seize bolts)using an M6 tap to clean the threads, then cutting the bolts to size (around 10mm long)you only get about 5 threads past the bottom flange without touching the tank topalso painted the tank protectoryellow is definitely the right colour, will stick on a rubber trim when I get the chance

Thanks Reason2Doubt, nice to find folks who understand restorations, getting a blow torch for the gas canister tomorrow, have to work on all those seized bolts with heat while the tank is out.
Waiting for the garage to get in touch so they can approve the rebuild of the lower tailgate.
