Dave's la(te)st buggy build...

Our Londis delivery was nice and early this morning, so I managed to sneak off for a few hours this afternoon...



Reassembled the back a bit... spare wheel strap in, the faux Jerry Can that holds my tree strop bolted back in, the spare relocated and strapped down, which in turn clamps the ground anchor 'spade' in place. and the hi-lift jack mounted inside across the X in the cab...



And the seatbelts reattached too...



New soft-top front section arrived this morning, so it would be rude not too...



Sounds simple enough...

LOL :laugh: "Remove these screws" that have been in place for twenty years!!! :ohmy:

Beat them into submission with a suitably sized screwdriver and a big hammer... "tapping them lightly' ( :lol: ) can shake them loose a bit!

And of course one of the four refused to come out and rounded off the crosshead hole in the top... so I angle grinded a slot across it and attacked with an even bigger screwdriver! :evil:



All out in the end though and the old hood removed...



On reassembly I replaced the old "screws" (M6 bolts actually) with some nice new stainless steel ones with hex heads...

A fair bit of fiddling about later...



And finally the new hood is in place...! :woohoo:

So I've left it down to stretch into place in my nice warm garage...

How have you managed to get the belt to retract? Mine don't do that without assistance.

Twenty years on... but both working fine! :woohoo:

Will give the polish idea a go because the current situation is very agitating.

Bit more today, but a late start as our eldest daughter came home from Oxford for the weekend, so it would have been rude to disappear into the garage, so we all had breakfast, and then when they went shopping I walked the dogs and then disappeared into the garage...



I started by marking a tape line along the sill and then undersealed the bottom of the sills inside and out with Hammerite Underseal -



With added Waxoyl



Messy job but well worth it...



I then attacked the JimnyBits side bars with a sanding sponge... one done!



And then the other... you may remember I got these reasonable as they somehow ended up with two of the same side at the end of a production run, so I cut and shut one to make it right for the other side... They've been on the buggy during the build so have been scuffed and dripped on with filler and paints, so I decided to sand them down and repaint them... I wonder what colour?! :silly:



While they were put to one side to dry I started reassembling the rear mudguards



All stainless fixings everywhere





Aha, there you go... if you hadn't guessed the colour of the sidebars, there they are in the background of this photo Yella to match all the other added bits of tube! :woohoo:



Done!

I'm hoping the windscreen guys will be here Monday or Tuesday...

Wednesday I'll bolt the sidebars back on and give them a second coat on the buggy, as it's very hard to paint both sides nicely on a pair of trestles! I hope the first coat doesn't look too bad... From doing the tubes of the "rollcage" it will probably take three coats to get them looking perfect!

The JCB Yellow paint is an agricultural enamel paint so should be much stronger than the standard black powdercoat and easy to patch up along with the rest of the buggy if (when!) they sustain any scrapes or knocks... :laugh:

Wednesday I'm also hoping to get the snorkel back on and then refit the front mudguards too, after the windscreen guys have been...?

So more soon then?!

So the back just needs the Samurai rear lights and guards added, and the foglight and high level brake light...

... BUT, there's still a lot of wiring to do, etc, and I've still got the winter 'lockdown's to fill working in the garage until the sun eventually comes out next year and the COVID clouds disperse, so I'll be keeping myself busy with it for a while yet...

When I use stainless nuts and bolts I always grease them so that they do no stick together.

Ahhh... the joys of employing people... "I can't come in today, my back has gone again"...
