Im guessing it would have been better going down in first gear using the engine as braking instead of using the foot brake?

On the insurance claim form there is usually a box entitled
'In the space below please provide a sketch of the incident'
I want to see what he drew!

I know I wasn't the one driving but even in a standard Jimny in low range with the wheels straight that shouldn't have been that hard. Though it might have been sensible to walk it first.

It should have been an easy decent and lack of experience at fault here. It does show how quickly it can all go wrong when you consider most gain off road skills using the "have a go" method. They got away lightly, it could have so easily been a roll over decent.
I wont off road my Jimny as its not prepared for the worst, but I do in my Land Rover which now has full roll cage, harness belts etc. Expect the worst and be careful out there people.
