I've tried local motor parts shop, but they haven't had the right size in stock and told me that the spline is there for a reason, so I assumed there is something specific about the bolts that I might not see first, which stopped me from getting some similar bolts from a hardware shop. Yours actually have no spline either.
Do these bolts have any special features, that untrained eye won't see, or can normal bolts be used instead?
Thanks.

In the original bolt the "spline" is only on the face of the bolt head, not to be confused with "Spline bolts" which have the spline on the shaft and are typically specialist application bolts such as wheel hub bolts.
A quote from a bolt supplier.....
Armed with teeth-like serrations, serrated flange bolts are one-piece bolts bite into surfaces to resist vibration. This bolt is identifiable by the ridge or surrounding the bolt head, this built-in washer under the head of the Bolt acts to distribute the clamping load over a greater area. A flange bolt is designed to provide the same holding power as a washer.
