Vaxxi,

I will bring the discussion back to here.

I cannot see exactly what is happening with the pdfs.

The log shows....

86.162.42.180 www.bigjimny.com - [09/May/2013:20:43:43 +0100] "GET /information/qhow-toq-guides.html?task=weblink.go&id=28 HTTP/1.1" 303 0 " www.bigjimny.com/information/qhow-toq-guides.html " "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0"

303 is a "See Other" reply so is effectively a re-direct.

Article id 28 is the Caliper article yet I requested the Kingpin Article.

I am also have trouble with the administrator back-end as some pages will not save (therefore sounds like a permission issue)

Is the redirect handled by the qhow-toq-guides.html page (doubtful, since it seems to be a static page) or by rewrite rules ? Is there a static mapping between the "id" present in the request and PDF filename (in database or somewhere else) ? maybe there were rewrite rules in Apache which are not present in lighttpd.conf, causing this to fail ?

For the backend - what doesn't get saved, DB information or static page content ?

Chaps. Just be careful not to divulge too much info on the inner workings of the site on the public pages.

Could be a hackers dream come true! (from someone who deals with IT security architecture in my day job :))

GuardianAngel.

Don't worry I am trying to be careful!

The rewrite seems to be coming from the SEO module within Joomla so I need to look there. Lighttpd does not appear to be re-writing at the moment.

GuardianAngel - no problem. You are right to be concerned given the continuous hack attempts I can see in the log files.

And.....YES!, found it.

Apache2 was configured to use xcache, Lighttpd is not currently configured to support xcache. Therefore every action on the website that made Lighttpd think it could use the cache (i.e the pdf documents which are static files) would result in a failure as it tried to use the unconfigured xcache.

This was made worse by the fact it would not let me edit the configuration files as they are "static" and hence gave the same caching error!
