My hosting service, 1and1, has suffered some long outages in the last few days.

I am afraid this is beyond my control

A small problem noticed today (on my topic ) - I've got 3 email notifications for new posts, but only 2 messages are displayed. Halford's message (the first) isn't shown.

Never liked 1&1 after trying to get a mate's photography website up and running useing joomla only to find out you need to pay extra for a bloody free CMS!

also found customer service to be a waste of time

I took the self install route for Joomla as its free.

However the service seems to have peaks and troughs and we are in a trough.

I think the site will be down by tomorrow and they claim everything is fine.

I dont know about you but I am tired of this!!

I will look at moving the site over to a different hosting company.

Please bear with me as this may cause some more disruption.

Sorry Martin, I hadn't read this when I emailed you about it earlier.

Thank-you for your hard work.on the site though, we do appreciate it and that you have a living to earn at the same time!

Good luck Martin. As stated, we all appreciate your efforts.

Yep, yesterday was a nightmare. The site was up and down like a whores drawers. Or for those delicate souls on this forum (ha,ha), like a toilet seat at a party.

Does anyone have any experience of running a server in a cloud service such as Amazon Cloud or HP Public Cloud (yes, I know I work for HP!).

The schemes seem to start off competitively but there seems to be an opportunity with the usage charges for the costs to ramp up quickly.

I am considering running my own server so that problems become my fault rather than relying on some dodgy support from countries in range of North Korea's nuclear missiles.

Does anyone have experience of the costs?
