Whining sound was created by BGBrit
Hello all, I'm hearing a whining sound as I'm driving along, I believe it's the transmission but not sure, which is why I'm here seeking help from all you guru's

It only happens as I'm accelerating because as I ease off the throttle the whining ceases only to return if I give it a little more gas.

Any ideas and remedies welcome.

Cheers.

Hello Tony....where you been all these months? Trouble-free Bulgarian motoring, I can only assume !!

Start with checking all your oil levels first, mate...easiest and cheapest !!!

Ahhh well, you are right, Gus,,,trouble-free so far... But I've had my Russian grandson staying the summer four months in all and he's a right hand full, but fun, s been very busy.

My engine oil is perfect, I know,,, but I didn't think about checking trans oils. Thanks fr that I'll do that this weekend.

Cheers
Tony.

Hi Gus and all,,,, had a look through the oil guides to find out the gear oils I would need for my second-hand Jimny 2009. In the service record booklet, it has it recorded as a Jimny 1.3 JLX + MT. On my V5 it states the model is a Jimny VVT. The oils in the diff and the trans, are different for both models. So I'm confused as to which model I have and which oils I should purchase. Is there another way of determining the model I have, from say the car itself or the info below?

Other info I have which may help are.
Engine number M13A-1961028
VIN JSAF JB43V00341036.
Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Tony.

Hi Tony,

I suspect that the 'MT' refers to Manual Transmission. ...in which case, proceed as follows :

75W-80 GL4 in gearbox
75W-90 GL4 in transfer box

Make sure you don't put GL5 in either of these by mistake (GL5 is for your front & rear diffs).....High sulphur content in GL5 eats synchro rings and bronze bushes!!!)

TIP : Rake out all the rust and crap from the square recessed holes in your fill/drain plugs, get them nice and clean so that they will accept the correct 10 mm square drain plug tool.
Do not be tempted to use the square drive on a 3/8" ratchet , which is only 9.5 mm and will round out your holes....then you're screwed!
If you can't get hold of one in the back of beyond where you live (!!), let me know and I'll send you one out.

Keep in touch,

Gus
