Hello,

Im pretty sure most of you use steering damper, but which ones you prefer?
Seen trail master, rough country, pro comp, rancho..
Are they basically the same as in results ??

I can't compare it to others but I'm happy with my ToughDog RTC damper. I would only suggest it for a right hand drive, though. Due to having to mod the brackets to fit my LHD, I wouldn't replace it with another. If yours is RHD, the TD should be a decent choice.

I would expect most steering dampers to perform about the same during the life of the damper. If not choosing a TD, I would suggest going with one from a company that you know makes good quality components. Trail Master is likely a good choice. I think Bilstein also makes a steering damper that would fit.

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

Funny you should mention a Return-To-Centre (RTC) Steering Damper, as I've just fitted one to my Jimny -

It's a Land Rovery Discovery 1 / Range Rover Classic one and was a bit of a squeeze to fit,...

About time someone imported some Tough Dog ones over to the UK then! ;)

Does that give you full lock when you go left hand down, because in that picture it doesn't seem to have much travel left before the piston is fully compressed?

Looking to fit a damper and it is next on my list, I tend to only get a wobble on one piece of road in the whole of Leicetsreshire, sadly it is the road that leads to our village, I dont want to pay for the full kit as I can make the brackets myself, can somebody kindly tell me the optimum size that suits the Jimny.

Thanks
Nic

S200KYS I have the Armstrong STC786 which is also an LR Disco 1 damper. Where did you get the bracket?

Yes, it's close (you can see the steering bar bracket has to actually sit over the rod end to get full lock), but yes, tested and happy with it...

The damper is a fair bit longer than the original Terrafirma Disco'1 damper I had fitted which surprised me...

The Armstrong STC 786 appears to be a pin mount each end?

So you'd need one of these -

And two flat bars clamped round the chassis rail on the other end...

Or there's various retailers out there too...

Yes mate, pin mount each end. Thanks for that S200KYS, you saved me the time as I've been looking all over for one! Now I've to find the two flat bars you mentioned. Any ideas on them? :)

Thanks for that. The photos help a lot in terms of having an idea of what I need making.
