Steering Damper Placement was created by Jimnyash
I'm sure I've seen on here (but for the life of me cant find it now) pictures of steering dampers fitted behind the axle.

I guess this is to stop any damage while off roading.

Is there any other advantage? I don't really want to limit access to the tie down points as I guess at some point, I'll reinforce them somehow with plates etc etc.

Hoping to get this ordered to fit at the weekend (as the weather looks a least dry!).

Any thoughts?

I've tried the Search. At the time there was 159 posts. I just didn't fancy reading each one and hoped someone could help.

Thanks Maverick.

That's not the thread I remember, but it does help.

So it looks like the jimnybits kit. I guess fitting it to the rear steering bar is just more of a pain than fitting it on the front steering bar.

I wouldn't be too worried about the damper getting damaged, because it sits in there pretty high up, so it takes a blind or very crappy driver to smash the front end against a rock or something high enough to hit the damper...

I've got the kit that fits behind the axle. Clamps on the rear tie bar and onto the clamp round the axle.

Only thing is, it's not fitted so no piccies I'm afraid.

I attached it to the front of the axle to start with and the angle that the damper sits at is quite steep but after a phone call, it was decided that the bracket went to the rear of the axle and the damper behind. Not as steep an angle and as a plus, out of harms way.

Will be fitting it to the rear once the Jim starts going back together.

K :-)

Mines on the front tie bar but its well out of the way.
I just have the basic kit off here but I wasn't 100% comfortable with the angle and position when the other end of the damper was just attached to the tie down points so I made up a little section of steel that bolts onto the tie down point and then the damper bolts onto that. Not dissimilar to the Rhino ray set-up but a bit cheaper!
You can just about see it in this picture.

It makes it a little further back and the angle of the damper a bit flatter.
Its well out of the way, not sure how you would manage to damage it as there is a lot of other stuff in the way first.
