Rocklobster Question

More
16 Jun 2011 15:59 #17881 by ooky_123
Well after spending most of the afternoon under the car, attempting to fit the Rocklobster, I managed to get the car running in front wheel drive, and took it to my local garage to help me drill the rear diff flange.
Here is a photo of the finished article

I do have one problem though, I havnt bent the gear stick yet, so the transfer box is currently stuck in 4 Hi. I assume I need to get it bent back to allow me to select 2Hi.

Also, can someone give me a photo of the gear pattern .. Is it the same as the Jimny ?

2Hi --- 4Hi (push down) -- 4Lo ??

Also just noticed after a quick test drive that the gear stick seems to be touching either a UJ or a balance weight if you push down on it when changing gear ... a common problem #?? maybe need to go slightly higher on the lift ... ?

The change pattern on a Rock Lobster is in the shape of a backwards J

2H at the top
4H at the bottom
4L at the tip of the "hook"

Ahh that explains it then ... even with a 1" cut in the floot, i cannot select the 2Hi (Neutral) position ... ok, so bending is essential ...

You get a "ting", "ting", "ting" noise. I had this, its the bolts are too long on one of the flanges if I remember correctly, they foul something.

It gets worse when you "load" the transmission (i.e. steep hill start)

I'm sure It's

....................4 L
....................l
....................l
...................__ N
2H...............l
l...................l
l_________l 4H

you get the idea lol..................................get the oxy on it to get a good kink in the stick, really red and it will bend where you want it and not like a bananaB) .......or some people grind it nearly through and then weld it.

Sorry .. Both wrong !!! .. I was looking at the problem today, and it appears to be speed specific .. so, with the lobster box in neutral, and the jimny in Gear, i started to investigate.. The problem appears to be a balancing weight on the mini prop is fouling the bottom of the gearstick assembly. It is more prominent when the gear selector is in the rear position (2nd, 4th, Reverse).

Closer inspection, the underside of the gearstick is on rubber bushes, and these have quite a lot of play. Now .. ignore or try and fix the problem ???...
