Vibration HELP!!! was created by MigCooper
I am at a dead end with my Jimny.
Almost since I bought my Jimny I noticed a vibration in the Transfer case leaver. Tried to find the source of the problem for a wile but got no where .... in the meantime I decided to buy a rocklobster and waited until then thinking the problem could be the transfer case .... changed the transfer case last week and found the rear gearbox mount was broken, so changed that as well and "yes" it is still the same actually got much worst until I took it off-roading yesterday and got back to what it used to be.. the vibration is quite strong specially up hill and it disappears completely at around 25mph regardless of the gear selected .... since 2 drive shafts and the transfer case were changed I don't know what more to try except I ordered new transfer case mounts for the sake of it .....

Anyone ideas would be great ... Thanks :(

Prop shafts out of balance. Lost the balance weights from the shaft?
Happened to me in an Escort van.
Vibration got that bad that at 60 mph, the gear lever would come out of the box!

Thanks keefe

I though about that as well but since I installed the new t-case 2 shafts where changed (mini prop and rear prop) and I drove the car without the front one for a test. I was looking at the ones installed now and they seem to have all the original weights.

thanks for the idea anyway ... I am really at a dead end with this :(

May sound like a daft question but is the lever physically vibrating or is it just making a vibrating noise from that general area?
(not that I have any idea what it is but just thinking aloud really...)

As well as driving without the front one I would also try driving without the rear one.

Remove the rear propshaft and put it in 4wd. You will then have a front wheel drive vehicle, see what happens then.

It is a physical vibration. you can see the lever moving all over the place

sounds like a process of elimination is needed like Martin says (and you are already doing).
If its a new box with new mounts and it still does it without the front prop then that must only leave the rear prop/diff/axle.

Edit: Just a random thought did it do it before you put your transfer box guards and everything on? Don't see how it would effect it but you never know...

Yes it use to do it, but since I was going to change the t-box and believed that was the problem never looked at it .....

will see after fitting the new t-box mounts from ORA

Sounds to me like a buckled wheel or a bent propshaft, but you say you changed the propshafts with the transfer box.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
