I have manual hubs and love their functionality but really the 1970s called and would like them back please. I don't want to go back to the vacuum system as it's less functional and just as ugly.  This only leaves fixed drive flanges which looks better but means hasn't got the functionality as to have 4x2 low and means the front drive is being turned all the time which I can't decide is a good idea or not? So that makes me wonder if there is anything else like a low profile manual hub available?

I have the vitara avm from jimnybits
You have to remove around 6mm from the hub nut or use spacers
I chose to mod the nut

I like that they are tapered and one piece but they are still quite deep and 70s looking?

Manual hubs are very dated. How about vacuum hubs with a 2 low switch. Same functionality as manual hubs, with a cleaner look and more convenience.

Hmm but they are ugly too. And not entirely reliable. And having an auto is making 4x2 low increasingly less necessary. Pity we can't have permanent 4x4.

Use a set of SJ permanent locking plates and then fit whatever decorative hub centre you want

I have no problem with 70s look but then again I would like to put manual hubs on my 84 SJ also for the looks so I see your point..

However I have no problems with the vaccuum hubs even though they require some maintenance, as does the manual hubs.

But with those and the fixed hubs it is possible to use the same hub center caps as in the rear wich might be a visual plus for you?

I too like the idea of the look of the fixed hubs I guess I just have to decide if I can really do need 4x2 low with the automatic transmission. I do use it but mostly because I have it if that makes sense. Dunno?

Has anyone done the 4x2 Low mod with a switch on a Gen 4?
Is it the same as the Gen 3, just interrupt the signal from the TC?
