7 inch headlight was created by Lambert
So I have noticed that the tops of my headlight outers are starting to cloud. There are various options including buffing or covers at one end of the cost scheme and then like for like replacement or even led replacement at the other end.  However I am wondering if it is possible to fit a 7 inch headlight unit like say a trucklite or similar and then have a separate indicator to the side. I'm sure I could do something with some flat abs or similar and pick up existing mount points but it's likely to look odd or incomplete. So to that end I have been looking for a moulded surround and I am struggling to find anything. I might have said print something but I'm not literate enough in that respect. Has anyone seen something available to buy?

I think I found some japanese ones. But they where wrong sided, like the blinkers and park where on the inside of the 7" so they looked off to me. And they cost way too much.

I just bought a set of used foggy headlights I will polish and replace my cracked ones. The cracked ones Will be models for some sort of 7 inch Brackets when or if I get the time.

Now they are on alixpress and still look off. No place for blink or park.
If you Google jb43 7 inch headlight
You may find them in the pictures.

these look so much better, even possible to buy just the frame and bracket so you can buy correct 7" for your LHD/RHD preference and E-marked instead of the chinese LED wich is most likely not MOT-ok.

The plastic can usually be cleaned up with a little effort the 3M kit works very well: amzn.eu/d/1YFyGkR

I did the headlights on my Camaro with this kit, only take 10 mins or so per headlight.

I ordered a pair yesterday in fact.

Most LED lamps are horrid with high kelvin (6000k +) tints and horrid blue'ish light, that makes greens & browns (trees/countryside etc) all look rather greyish. plus induce more eyestrain. Many LED units, esp Aliexpress/Amazon produce horrid glare and dazzle oncoming traffic.

Other options would be to go for a good set of Quadoptic or Crystal halogen units an run some good bulbs or some LED bulbs.

totally agree on the LED's, I will be using standard halogen H4 glass and metal inserts and most likely Osram nightbreaker.
The high kelvin white is no good in the snow, you loose the depth. More yellowish light and you will easier see the contours and edges of the road.

The 3M kit is what i used on my Jimny earlier and on the Swift. First time I used it I was way to careful with the grinding, should have gone on for longer but was afraid to not being able to buff them back up. But it was no problem and they have held on for a few years.
Swift was only matte and came out OK.

I did the headlights on the gen3 with the Philips kit. Almost two hours' fairly hard work, but they came up just like new.

Hi,

I just did the headlights on my 2001 Boxster, but didn't use a kit. One headlight is much older and has a lot more of a dull appearance.

I used fine wet and dry to remove the rough stuff, then Meguiars Ultimate Compound and a polishing machine, then Meguiars Ultimate Polish before sealing it with their wax.

The difference is quite striking, but it took several applications of the compound and polish to achieve a sparkling finish. However, UV light will some make them go dull again, so they will need a UV protective coat or film, I haven't got round to buying this yet.

If your specialist kits include a UV protective coat I would suggest applying it, if not you might as well use ordinary compound/polish.

Other things that are known to work are baking soda and toothpaste, but make sure you get one with a minty flavour to make your lights taste good afterwards [sic].

I used Osram Nightbreakers in my last Jimny and in my Boxster, but I needed some more for my Boxster as I only installed dip beam (it has H7 bulbs, two per reflector).

I did a search online, Osram make the original Nightbreaker at 150%, but make a new one at 220%, although in a well organised test Philips Racing Vision GT200 pipped both Nightbreakers to be the best halogen bulbs.

The test also compared Halogen and LED and found that a good Halogen has longer reach than LED and doesn't cause as much glare. Whilst I am sure that is true for a LED bulb vs a Halogen in the same reflector (I know they aren't legal here) the LED lights on my SZ5 wouldn't be easily beaten by any Halogen.

I didn't really get on with nitebreaker as it's all high beam so I've gone back to ring.

Those frames are exactly what I had in mind thanks

We use GT200, as for polishing, using sanding pads ( 300, to 600, 1000, then 3000) then gloss lacquer to seal it , see the results on a audi S5 and it looks new

One of the first things I did when I got my jb74 home, was to apply some ppf I had to the headlights , bonnet edge and a few other high wear points.
It's been 5 years (in a month or so), so I'll report back in another 5 years (hopefully) if the ppf has stopped the headlights from yellowing.
