I have on permanent loan a 2010 jimny SZ with 40000 miles on clock. Does the engine have a timing belt and if so when should it be changed.
I dont have a manual for the car so not sure how the buttons for 2wheel drive, 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive low are operated, do you have to stop to operate. I am very careful not to do damage. I enjoy driving it and it has a drawbar which is useful. Any help would be most helpful, thanks.

You sir are one very lucky person. The best resource about the 4WD is here the BigJimny Wiki

www.bigjimny.com/mediawiki/index.php/4WD...ion_system_operation

Just remember don’t engage 4WD unless there is some slip in the surface as the diffs and transfer box don’t have slip differentials and you run the risk of winding up and damaging the transmission, otherwise just go out and have fun. Find a few muddy green lanes and test your skills off road.

Oh and post photos or any questions, remember nothing is too obvious we all have to start somewhere.

Also the engine is a chain type so no need to worry about a belt change.

You can switch between 2WD and 4WD up to 62mph, although you would rarely want to - 4WD is for driving more cautiously on snow, mud, or gravel.  Basically, leave the car in 2WD at all times unless you are getting bad wheelslip.

You can't engage 4WD-L unless the car is stopped and in neutral or Park.  This works the same as 4WD but with all gears lowered significantly.  Only really for serious off-road use.
