Hi all,

So.. I get a call from the wife in the afternoon saying that Sulu her 05 Jimmy Auto has broken down and she’s stuck. Engine stuttering, almost no power and stalling engine. She managed to crawl it to her destination and I agree to drive down after work and have a look.

So a few hours later I drive down, start it up, runs perfectly, drive around for 10min, no problems. She had just filled up and not driven much during the lockdown so I assumed some sediment or rust in the fuel causing the problem which had just been pulled through or settled.

We start the 40min drive home and about 25min in the hazards come on, she pulls over. Again engine stuttering. Stalls, wait 2min, turn back on and running fine again. So set off again.

10min later, just 5miles from home, hazards back on again, pull over. Again engine stuttering and shaking and eventually stalls.
This time we restart and same stuttering shaking again. This just keeps happening and Sulu just won’t idle properly.

I tried disconnecting the mfs, no change. Wiggle the leads, nothing disconnected or split that I can see. Disconnect battery and re-connect same stutter. Just about to call out breakdown cover, try one last time and she starts and idles perfectly.

Start our drive home and same again, loss of power stuttering. This time we push through the 5 miles, try and keep the revs up and make it back home before stalling.

I know it’s no much info to go on, but intermittent problems like these always end up being a pain. I’m no mechanic but a keen tinkerer. Anyone got any thoughts or is it straight down the local garage.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Exactly that happened to me - damn the expense and trying to identify which sensor was the culprit - I changed both of the blighters in the end.

Martin accurately helped out with the correct part number identification as my Jim is a bit of an anomaly, apparently. (Thanks again Martin)
It runs as smooth as silk now

Update: changed crank sensor but no joy. Next job is cam sensor. Fingers crossed!

Coil packs?
Mine was more or less like this. dismantled the cover (only on m13) to increase cooling on them and that helped a bit. They tend to fail when hot making the fail intermittent.
Bought a new cheap china coil on ebay and still works.
Coil packs from other suzukis may also be used, most G16 and m13 coils could fit. I borrowed a coil pack from a 99 Baleno to identify the problem.
