I suggested this years ago when I needed a new clutch. I read Martin's guide on here and that it's hard to get the gearbox back very far because of this and thought stuff it & gave it to my mechanic of the time to do, who commented on why they had to put it there and not give a few more inches!

No one has done it as far as I know though, I suppose it's not something that's an issue too often and I don't expect my clutch to need changing for a long time as I have a rocklobster to make it's life easier now.

I'm thinking two fold..

1. it will be easier to change clutches/gearbox etc..
2. it might if designed right add a little protection to the gearbox also

If it was seen as providing protection also I'm sure the market would increase.. ??

The chassis should not really be modified as this could cause problems with VOSA

Also no point it fitting gearbox guards due to its location.
