Must have tried a bit too hard!
On their way back to JimnyBits to report back to TG on my findings...

Oh dear
Did it feel different or did you just take them out to check for the testing and find they were like this ?

Oil leak started the investigations off Dan' -
There were other symptoms too, but these were prototype shafts I was asked to try, so it's fair to let JimnyBits and TrailGear analyse everything and develop the finished product from these findings...

Hi Dave
As a fairly new, and not very mechanically experienced, jimny owner I'd just like to say all the blogs you do are very informative, but also a great read, and this thread strings them together nicely.
I have to ask you and the other contributors though, this is excessive right ?
I mean I don't have the money, time, tools or knowledge to go through this much blood, sweat and gears.
Keep up the good work, Paul

Yes it is, I use mine as a work truck on the farm and I don't suffer a fraction of the maintenance issues displayed by Dave but equally my car is essentially standard in comparison. It's an arms race, you want bigger lumpy tyres, you have to beef up everything in the drive line to regain reliability, you add weight with cages and bumpers and armour, you increase the strain on the rest of the system. its the price for having an awesome truck and is an itch that takes a lot of restraint not to scratch.

LOL
Blog now up...
www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/oswestray-05/06/16/blog_345.html
I only need a replacement rear axle casing (ordered already, due this week, strip on Wednesday, rebuild on Sunday...?), a full axle rebuild, a new pair of rear AVO premium shocks, some new Radius Arm to Axle bushes, more money to pay for it all, which makes less time to work on the red one too...
Ah well, it was a good day out... even if we did have to limp home in front wheel drive, after driving the Corwen Car Wash ford in front wheel drive low... interesting driving on the road with an LSD in the front too...!
Both rear shocks bent as the axle brackets let go... some more money to Russ @ JimnyBits then?
Which forced the other side's bush to pop out too...
Crack!
Which took the prop out as it was forced to work at an old angle...
Removed to limp home...
Luckily I have got a prop... but it was destined for the red Jimny...
Ah well, only the blog

Jesus dude, you really need to try harder, ripping off the back axle just demonstrates a lack of commitment to the cause!

back together in no time and stronger too, no doubt.
