I thought that was illegal due to not being able to make the 50pc braking efficiency required for all axles of a trailer?

Depends on what a-frame it is and how it operates the brakes....

We use an electronic system that applies the brakes in the car which allows it to brake at exactly the same amount as the motorhome

Proportional braking they call it.
