After a raid race where i was and with a set of 205/80/16 cross tyres i blow up my front hd axle shaft and cv.

So as it has been in the back of my mind for a long time, the moment has come.

I got a set of Nissan Patrol MK/MQ axles with arb diff lockers already installed, and also with rear disc breaks.

Also i got a set of 33/10.5/15 BF KM2 which will go on a set of 15x8 procomp alloy wheels ( had them already).

For start i will use the same suspension that has already been installed, and later i will go for 3link front and 4link rear.

A hydraulic hand break will be installed to come up with the rear disc breaks.

Sorry. But I really can't see the point in installing such wide and heavy axles on a Jimny, or the 33" tyres for that matter.

The Jimnys force is it small size and low weight.
Putting on such heavy axles does nothing good for anything. And it's unspung mass.

The patrol axles are definitely interesting as they're very strong and pretty cheap. Just not on a Jimny if you ask me.

Actually a bit funny that Patrol Y60 and Y61 axles have been a popular mod for 4x4's here in Denmark for many years. But it's only recently that the British 4x4 people have found out about that :)

The choise of the patrol axles was made for :

1) because there was already arb airlockers installed in both axles,

2) the price was very good,

3) even in stock (as mine) they are stronger that the Toyota land cruiser LJ/ BJ 70 and Mercedes G
the patrol ones can come up to 37'' without upgrades than the other that can't go more than 235/85/16 and soft
tyre pattern ex. not caiman or cross

4) patrol axles are just about 6cm wider than toyota and about the same with G, so no wheel spacers needed.
Also better stabillity provited by the wider axle.

5) patrol are just about 12kg heavier from the toyota and almost the same with G

6) more weight in the axles will help privent roll overs, because of the low center gravity.

So the positives where more than the negatives.

Also the tracks we have here are rough enough to challenge the endurance of the axles.

In Greece we use patrol Y61 and MK/MQ axles for almost 10 years now in challenge trucks,

as far as i know because thats the time i also being involved.

That's all very good.
And I understand why you'd want to go with the ARB lockers.

But instead of comparing with Toyota axles you need to compare them with Jimny axles.
It's common knowledge to most people that use their 4x4 for competition that Y61 are some of the strongest OEM axles available.

Just to be clear. On must heavier vehicles I'd put Y61 axles on myself. But not on a small 4x4 like a Jimny. There are far better options available.
