Thanks for the comments folks, the journey so far has been incredible and is certainly a must do. I’m really struggling for decent wifi at the moment and have been dodging social media to really take in the sights, so I’ll get plenty pics sent when home - along with a how-to on the awning and how I’ve found the roofbox/bars etc.

Back from an unbelievable trip on the NC500. I actually couldn’t believe I was in the UK at some points never mind Scotland!

Not going to turn this thread into travel magazine so I’ll cover the Jimny related stuff, with a few scenery pics too but my itinerary was as follows:

Day 1 - Inverness > John O’Groats
Day 2 - John O’Groats > Durness
Day 3 - Durness > Achmelvich
Day 4 - Achmelvich > Gairloch
Day 5 - Gairloch > Applecross
Day 6 - Applecross > Inverness & then home.

Got organised by getting my hands on the Ocean80 by Thule and firing all the camping kit into it. 320L capacity sure was suffice for this trip.

Fitted onto the Thule 951 footpack holding Thule 127 square bars. Perfect fitment for the Jimny.

I got a handy GoPro car mount from Amazon to record footage whilst on the route which was brilliant. I’ll hopefully get some footage uploaded soon.

The route itself comprises of steep inclines & declines, hairpin bends and plenty of single track roads so I found it a fitting playground for the SZ5. The manual gearbox certainly came into its own league when navigating some of the steep terrain, sometimes 3rd gear was required to get it up the hill with all the weight but it was sound and handled the route like a champ.

As mentioned before, I averaged about 38mpg for the whole trip and I’m pretty pleased with that. Dash indicated around 280 miles on a full tank (it is certainly more than this though but the car likes to warn you earlier than expected)

Time for some pics. The roads themselves, the scenery and the combined Scottish weather gave me a trip I won’t forget. If you get the chance - do it!

Standard little set-up in a rather wet Applecross

The beautiful landscape and scenery just never gave up

Kylesku Bridge

Plenty of posing pictures

Peace out folks ;)

What a great trip, Ash.

It is stunning in that neck of the woods. I spent a lot of time in the NW.

Thanks for going to the trouble to post the report.
