another Jimny from AU! was created by jimcraig
been reading quite a few threads and builds on here and have seen a few australian jims getting around so i thought why the heck not do a write up?

Im 17 and I live in victoria, australia. My first car is a jimny and I'm so happy with it you could say the bug has bitten! Its a 98 JLX model and has done 100K kms. It was bone stock when I bought it about 6 months ago and although progress is slow with school and only part time work, i am getting stuff done on it.

This was when i first got the jim

My front bar which i got for $80. Im considering cutting the hoop off but I'm not sure about. You can also see my spotties which i got for free.

A small tailgate table that i whipped up in a few minutes after finding some stuff lying around the shed

and who said you need muddies to get muddy!

I'm currently in the process of finishing off a custom roof rack that I've made, as well as wiring in new spotlights and a new head unit.

all I've gotta do now is weld on some light bar mounts on the front of the rack, mount my shovel racks and i should be good to go.

I'm envious of the metalwork you guys can legally mount on the front of your cars over there.

It is quite handy, but if my car had airbags I wouldn't be able to mount a homemade bar it would have to be a commercially tested and engineered bar

Thanks for the replies boys

Bought a few goodies online this morning

eBay snorkel

Also bought a compressor, snatch strap and a wiring harness for my light bar as I don't have time to make one from scratch at the moment

I'm starting to plan my rear storage area, I'm not sure if I want a big single draw that I can divide into segments to keep stuff organised or just a big flat floor all the way to the seats for max carrying capacity

What's everyone's thoughts on this?

I have a ply half tray in mine with plastic boxes on that rubber mesh anti slip matting stuff, works a bit like thunderbird 2, different boxes for different jobs or empty for maximum volume.

One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.

I was thinking something like that would work well. Im still caught between the two though because if i made a draw, I could easily mount some 6x9 speakers in the back, possibly a second battery among other electrics e.g. inverter and usb ports for charging.

I've been bored at school lately so I have been drawing up a possible design for some rear draws.

all of the components are separated in the photo but you get the idea, so its got a single draw 630mm deep, then a storage compartment behind the draw which has a lid that would be on a hinge. You can see the holes for some 6x9s in the back of the draw.

probably nothing new here haha just got bored so i decided to draw it up

Mind you I could probably just try both the materials shouldn't cost that much, especially just for a flat floor

You should install component speakers in the front and add a small active subwoofer in between the holes for you 6 x 9's that would sound really nice, or just install some speakers in the side back panels and sub in the middle ;)

Nice drawing :)

I was looking to upgrade the front speakers too so that would work a treat.

Thanks fusion 360 makes it pretty easy it's a great app :D

I also found today when I took off my drivers side tyre that there was two severed vacuum lines (I think)

I then noticed my hubs are locked in even though the lines were severed, so it looks like I've been driving around with my hubs locked for the past 6 months. Oops.

Looks like I'll be fitting manual hubs in the near future!

Having the hubs locked has no serious consequences though does it (as long as my front diff has fluid lol)? I can only think of it affecting fuel efficiency

At least my vac hubs wont fail when I'm on the tracks!
