Looks like a nice bit of kit, it has cleaned up really well and looks a lot better without the stickers B) B).

Dan w - don't know why your first reply hasn't shown but I have a trailer so not a problem to move it. I'm not sure about the legality of an A bar. I don't know if a towing dolly requires the car to be taxed etc, but maybe someone on here would know. I am really pleased with how it cleaned up, but perhaps the photo makes it look better than it really is!

Nicho - it belonged to my nephew and he bought it from Neil Whitford AWDC guy behind the King of the Valleys. So it's been around for quite some time. I helped my nephew make some of the changes to the car so know it quite well.

Be interesting to see how it goes. It's certainly very low geared now with the 5:1 transfer box and we had already put vvt diffs in along with a 410 transfer box.

Good fun anyway!

Manual VVT, 2 1/2" lift, ORA castor corrected arms, 2" ORA body lift, 4:1 transfer box, Uprated front shafts & CVs ERM , ARBs back & front 3.9 diffs, 6 point cage, ORA winch bumper - Superwinch EP9, ORA rear bumper, ORA axle truses, Diff guards ERM , TBR tank guard, Snorkel, Kumho KL71.30.9.50 15

Hi All, I dont believe you would need to have it taxed or insured to tow it it on a a-bar or dolly, however you would need a specialist dolly or towing bar that is equipped to use the brakes on the vehicle you are towing. Ie the law states anything over 750kg now has to be braked, so if towing the Jimny you would need a specialist towing dolly hooked up to the brakes.

I see you removed the cross brace from the base of the windscreen?

Does this mean the cage flex increases. These cages have a habit of hitting the car, my Jimny is an almost identical KAP build and you should see the cost the original owner was charged for the flexible pipe snorkle!

Martin

2003 M13 early KAP build.
3" Trailmaster lift with 1.5 Spacers on front
Customised winch bumper and roll cage
235/85R16 Maxxis Bighorns on 16" Rims, 4:1 Rocklobster, Rear ARB locker and on-board air
Corrected arms all-round, rear disks, Recaro seats and harnesses

Hi Martin
Yes I did remove it as it seemed to be directly in my line of vision and I thought that as a trialler, or any other use really, it was not a desirable situation! So I got the angle grinder out and it was soon gone! I'm not sure the cage is any more flexible but I can imagine it would hit the body. I think really it needs a diagonal to brace it better, and possibly an external diagonal above the cab too. The cage is not that well made, it overhangs the rock sliders where the pipe hasn't been shaped to fit, and also where it fits the rear bumper doesn't look that strong.
I did wonder about putting an internal cage in it fixed directly to the chassis with a continuos hoop, diagonal and 2 rear bars. It would then conform to MSA spec and be eligible for a different class of trial. Possibly then bracing it to the external cage but I'm not sure if it would then conform to MSA! Need to check that out with a scrutineer.

I thought my snorkel top was rather good and very simple, but also very effective. I removed the external rubber fitting from the Durgo that normally fits inside the soil pipe, cut it down so that it fitted inside the Durgo pipe, and then inserted a piece of gutter down pipe into the rubber. The flexible 'snorkel' just happened to be a good fit in the gutter down pipe. I took the guts of the Durgo out before I started so that its open inside.

I have a KAP cage and KAP rear bumper, and the bumper is no place to mount the rear cage hoop, I reinforced mine with a length of box section inside before fitting my e'bay sourced cage/rear bumper, Also my rear bumper was twisted when I got it and required some work to get straight. I also removed my brace in front of the windscreen as it caused an MOT fail and I knew it is illegal for road use  The cage never has contacted the body maybe due to the box section welded to the chassis? and removing the brace seems to make no difference, even though i'm planning on trying to replace it with it lower than it was originally fitted.
