Fitting roof rails on Japanese import

Well spotted that man. I'd have some concerns about the security and weight limit of that arrangement - certainly in comparison to the fixings used on UK cars. Whereas my previous rack was often loaded with a dozen 4 inch fencing stakes and several rails, and I never felt there was any concerns. Umm, no fixing studs is the only thing putting me off the purchase. Anyway, many thanks for finding that needle in a haystack. Steve

You are welcome. What it is however doing is making me reconsider shaving the studs off mine as I have removed the factory rails as I think it looks cleaner without them. Now that I only put the roof box on there once a year, these clamp type would actually allow me to adjust the position of the cross bars like I can on the gen4 to suit the roof box instead of how I currently have a frame for it to sit on with the cross bars fixed by the position of the studs. I'm going to have a proper look and see if I can find some uk available options.

Call me cynical, but did you have a load of posts and rails on your motor when you flipped it?
Maybe your best bet would be a trailer

Well, here's a start for you.

Clearly the same fixings as your ebay image. They only sell the rack because the text further down it states "Doesn't come with roof rack bars", but I'd be fairly confident they'd know where the bars can be obtained. - and no needs to brush up on one's Japanese.

Nothing on the roof rack when I flipped on the ice. I have no need for a towing hitch or trailer, just the occasional trip to a very local yard with no 30 degree traverse angles on my way home, and no more than 40mph given the narrow unclassified roads. Your point is very valid though. I think the maximum safe load on the Jimny is 30Kg, and though I would occasionally exceed it, that figure is likely to have a good safety margin given a little common sense. But then any weight on the roof will ultimately affect stability, and so I don't know what criteria is used because there are too many variables.

FYI. Compass Auto in Japan were very helpful (link provided previously). They said the roof bars are made by the Japanese company Terzo, and while it is not an item they stock, they could order them in for me. The complete kit (mounting clamps with big rubber feet, bars, and locks) was £104, but once all the import duties, taxes, and shipping were included, it came to about £200. Ordered on a Monday, delivered by DHL on Thursday. Very pleased with their service. IVA complete and MOT done a couple of weeks ago, so about another week for DVLA to allocate a number plate. Since the underside of this 11-year-old import looks like new, the seller is giving it a full Bilt Hamber treatment. I've opted for their clear wax rather than black to show any future buyer there's nothing to hide.
