GEN 4 Disconnecting the Battery Sensor

I expect it will also disable the extra charge when the steering is turned and the air con is running, but there will be no need if it runs constant voltage, the alternator will just max out when you turn the wheel and drop back as the voltage recovers like they did for fifty odd years before BMS was invented.

BMS is just another "solution" looking for a "problem" IMHO.
I don't know about that?

The only thing different is the battery charges fuller than it did before.

I think the BMS is is there for the manufacturer to say they are cleaner and more eco friendly. I bet as an individual you won't notice any difference in economy running a dumb v smart alternator, but it probably adds up for the manufacturer.

Electronics is not my forte, so I am going to need a step by step guide to just what I have to do to remove/disable whatever it is to overcome the need to charge my battery every 4 weeks or so.
Many thanks Soeley and pics would be gratefully received.

Roger, see pictures of the connector to disconnect.

You can call me Mr Hamfisted & Stupid if you like, but how do you part the connector without breaking it (or ripping the sensor apart)?

There is what looks like a catch to press on the front, but I'm not strong enough to press it in with fingers and release anything. If I try harder with a tool it will likely shatter in the cold.

When the rain stops (tomorrow) I was going to get a pick and see if gently prying out what seems to be the other end of that tab will work.

The real question is do I just press the tab in harder and pull like fury, or press and slide something to release it and it drops off?

(I usually break 50% of any connectors or plastic clips, I can never get them to release )

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Replying to my own question...

The rain stopped for a few minutes, so out I went.
As I first thought, you have to prise the tang outwards off the peg on the sensor, then the plug easily pulls off- see all the shaved plastic where I levered it.
There is no way you would ever move the tang far enough by pressing the tab at the other end.... (Maybe you squeeze the two flat sides inwards towards each other with sufficient force that the whole jobbins distorts and it moves the tang outwards by itself, I never thought to try that)

Result!

A nice 14.3V across the battery, and it is charging at 5A, which is about right as I had it on the Optimate yesterday, I should have tried it before I charged the battery all day!
(yes it started raining again...)

No warnings popped up- well the low tyre pressure one was displaying, but nothing overrode it.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

To be honest, I can't remember without going and unwrapping it? Sometimes on the smaller connectors though, I do use a small screwdriver to push the tab in, as the small ones don't really give enough room to get your nail in far enough.
