Hi everyone. I have a cheap jimny project and not a great amount of money.
The gearbox is dead, Ive been looking to replace the gearbox which seems extortionate for a r72 gearbox. Ive had prices anywhere from 500-1200 all with no warranty. (this does not include fitting)
so my plan now is to put a r7me box in. I know it’s not a straight swap. The mounting system is abit different and il need to weld the two mounts together that’s fine.
i know the gearing will be off and it will rev higher. I dont mind too much as its just a weekend runabout. i will be getting bigger tyres ar some point.
The other questions I have is:
is the clutch fitting the same?
Do I need a none vvt prop shaft coming from the gearbox to the transfer case or will the vvt one I have do?
is there anything else i have missed?

Not done the swap
You can get rebuild kits on ebay for R72
That's if it's just bearings needed
I think you need prop from R7ME version Jimny James Priestley will probably have a prop he may have modified mount too

its not just bearings. the gears ar well and truly gone. I checked the oil and it was very, very lumpy.
A modified mount would be good.
im still after the prop but thats the only thing i need now.

I'm based in Bradford. I have another engine from a non vvt and a gearbox now.
I have the r7me. The only things I'm missing is the centre propshaft and the mount. But I reckon I can make it out of the 2 different types.
