What would happen if the air temp sensor were to be left out of the intake tube and dangling in the engine bay? (2000 Jimny M13A) would the engine run leaner because of the higher temperatures in the engine bay compared to the inside of the intake?

It could run lean, warm or hot air is less dense and therefore contain less oxygen. As such your eco might lean the mixture to compensate.

However, if your Lambda/O2 sensor in the exhaust is working correctly this should pull the mixture back. This will create a high fuel trim value and might spit out an error code if it goes too far.

Depending where the sensor is dangling there might not be too much difference between engine bay and air intake temp, especially whilst moving.

yeah i thought so, to be sure i got the sensor in the filter in some way, the car seems a little happier, not very noticeable but still better than having it dangle around.

another thing, i'd like to change the color of my gauge lights, but i donìt know what kind of bulb it is or if i should get some LEDs
