You either need to get a non-vvt engine, which is most commonly found in a Suzuki Liana, or you can get a VVT engine and swap your non-vvt cylinder head and timing cover onto that. Not such a bad option as it gives you an opportunity to skim the head and fit a new head gasket while the engine is out. The last 2 1.6 swaps I've done have needed head gaskets a few years after fitting anyway.
