Door remote fob - is it voltage sensitive?

I have a 2002 Jimny Special and the remote has been a little unreliable so I decided to change the battery.
The old battery is CR1616 and still registers 3v
The new battery is DL/CR1616 by Duracell and does not work. It registers 3.3v
The new battery is said to be the replacement for CR1616, but it is lithium and of course the voltage is slightly higher.
I ended up replacing the old battery and the fob worked.
I have contacted Duracell in case their battery is faulty and whilst giving a more than adequate voltage, may not generate sufficient current (unlikely)
So my question is "Does the remote key fob have a voltage limiting circuit in it to prevent damage if the battery is over 3v?
And my second question is "What do I do for a replacement battery if all CR1616's are replaced with so called "equivalent" lithium cells

I replaced my fob battery a while ago as it was hit n miss... used a Duracell DR/CL1616 3.3v and had no issues at all with it.

Can't answer the key circuit protection part but you may have just had a dud battery new out the packet... I've had it before with various sizes

I'm getting a new battery for mine tomorrow, I'll let you know how I get on.

A CR1616 is a lithium cell, at least as far as I know and a new good battery will measure over 3.0V, usually around 3.2V.

The remote won’t have a voltage limiter and 3.3V shouldn’t damage the key fob.

You are measuring open circuit voltage, so if the DL1616 has a high internal resistance it’s voltage will drop f the fob draws a high current. I did check the specs, it says 55mA, I would have thought that was plenty for the key fob.

Is the DL1616 exactly the same size, perhaps it has slightly different dimensions and is not making a good contact? Otherwise it looks like you Ishtar have a duff battery.

Many thanks for your helpful response. Duracell have refunded the cost but that is not really an answer. The fact that the fob does not have an over-voltage protection eliminates one possibility. The other is that the battery which is within date and was making good contact, was actually on its last legs and gave up when put into service. We shall see when I try another brand of CR1616,

Mine is now in service, just a generic cr1616. I have fob range for days.

Sorry if it is an obvious question.

You did remove the protective film on one surface of the new battery didnt you?  Don't ask me how I now know there is a film
