Maybe a blown fuse?
Maybe a broken wire or bad connection?
Maybe tell us what it is you're driving so we can figure out which fuse it might be, or even if it's OBD2 compliant?
Has the "Maxscaner" ever worked on this vehicle before?
What's your experience with auto-electrics like?

I have a Gen 3 and an code reader, that works perfectly, but when I plug my Bluetooth dongle in, it’s a bit iffy. When I looked at the BT dongle it has rectangular pins which are 90 degrees different to the Autel, so I simply used a pair of pliers to turn the pins through 90 degrees and hey presto, no more iffy connection problems.

Hi
My Jimny is a 2011 SZ3.
I've never used it on this Jimny before, but works fine on my Landrover !!
Thanks

Some scanning tools can be a bit picky about Japanese cars. Your scanner is not a jlr specific one is it?

The "dome light" fuse (#14) is the one that powers the DLC (Data Link Connector) aka OBD connector, along with other things, so if your dome light is working, and there's no power at the DLC connector, you have some sort of a wiring fault.

This takes us back to my earlier, as yet unanswered question - what's your experience with auto-electrics like?

Get a voltmeter and check for 12V on pin 16 of the connector, use a chassis/body ground as the reference for the initial test, if the 12V is present, use pin 4 & then 5 as the reference - 4 & 5 are the grounds in the DLC connector so an open circuit there can cause the scan tool not to power up.

Hi fordam.
Problem solved, thank you so much.
The tie up between the dome light and DLC Connecter solved the problem.
The engine warning light was not a problem, only that the DLC was not powered
For interest only : my Dome Light fuse was No. 8 not 14.
Thank you again.
Gordon
